In the UK, the word “architect” is protected by law. Only people on the register held by the Architects Registration Board (ARB) may call themselves an architect. The title tells you something specific about training, standards and accountability.
What ARB registration means
To join and stay on the register, an architect completes accredited education and professional training, and agrees to follow the ARB’s professional standards. Registration is checked and renewed, and the ARB can act on complaints. You can confirm any architect’s registration yourself on the public register at architects-register.org.uk.
