Hungershall Park Close is a beautiful and sought-after site on the outskirts of Royal Tunbridge Wells, in Kent. It was previously arranged as five small flats, with an existing coach house used for parking.
My client was Beau Property, an award-winning property developer. Their vision was to rejuvenate a previously unloved site and reconfigure the five small flats into three high-quality mews houses, full of charm and character.
The work was a change of use and conversion carried out within the existing external envelope, rather than by rebuilding, and part of the brief was to convert the existing coach house parking to residential use. The challenge was to make three distinct, comfortable homes out of a building that had never been arranged that way.
I worked closely with Beau Property from the start, helping with the initial design and then refining it for the planning submission. Each dwelling was carefully redesigned by reusing the existing external envelope and subdividing the building to form three unique houses. After the planning stage, I developed the detailed design and drawings for Building Regulations approval.
Planning permission was granted without delay, and the site became three attractive mews houses. The project came to me through a referral from a planning consultancy, and it was a valuable insight into Beau Property’s care for their buildings and their clear vision for design and quality.
